Fruit Trees and Moths

It’s beneficial to have a steady supply of fresh fruit from your own garden. Many people put in a lot of effort to reach this aim. Many people, however, are unaware of how easy it is to have a big worm infestation in their fruit. Nothing is worse than biting into an apple off a tree you worked so hard to grow, only to learn that you didn’t use enough pesticides.

Constantly spraying pesticides may appear to be a bother, but it is something that should never be disregarded. Spraying pesticides is a straightforward and uncomplicated procedure that should not be done frequently. Believe me, it is useful to simply go out in the yard and spray every couple of weeks.

Spraying appears to be a time-consuming task. After all, you’ll have to go out and get everything, mix the chemicals, apply them, and then clean up everything. You may need to utilize a ladder at times to reach all portions of the trees. If you have several large trees, the entire process can take up to four hours. Doing this every two weeks could get tiresome and unpleasant. However, you should never quit up. Consistent spraying will usually help avoid infestations of things like moths, but it isn’t always enough.

If moths have laid eggs on your trees, the tops of the branches will generally notify you. If you see what appears to be a cluster of moth eggs, prune and remove the branch where you found it as soon as possible. Examine the remainder of the tree carefully. If the eggs hatch, a swarm of moth larvae will swarm through your tree and into your fruit. I don’t know about you, but it makes me sick just thinking about it.

I had a friend who was dealing with a severe moth infestation. He couldn’t find a single fruit on his tree that didn’t have a worm in it. Because the stump was a wriggling mass of white larvae, he had to cut down the entire tree. I puked when I saw that. Oh, my poor stomach!) and have the stump professionally removed to ensure there are no traces left. It’s a disgrace to have to redo a tree you’ve been working on for so long.

I live in the same neighborhood as my friend and have never had a moth problem. This is because I go outside every Saturday during the spring and spray down my entire tree. It is far preferable to avoid an infestation of unwanted guests than to have to cut down a tree and start over due to a little laziness.

If you’ve never thought about spraying pesticides, you should go to your local gardening supply store right now. Learn about the most common pests in your area and buy the pesticides you’ll need to keep them away from your trees. I strongly recommend that you do not dismiss this, as it will save you a lot of trouble in the long run.
